365 Days of Beer
One year ago I made a resolution to drink 365 different beers in one year. With 13 hours left this year I am at 366 with a promise to drink at least two new beers by the end of the evening. I think this is the time where I am supposed to rattle off my year end best and worst lists but that involves way too much work and cognitive thinking. But here is my best attempt:
I cannot narrow down the best beer, or even the best few. Beer is meant to be enjoyed, the company you keep and the food you eat with it are just as important as the beer. The best time I had drinking beer this year has to be enjoying few pints of Smithwick’s over a football match in early fall.
Schlafly was easily the best represented brewery this year with 24 different styles consumed and they have another one I have not tried on top of my refrigerator now. Their Holiday Ale was certainly a treat as well as their Old Ale served at the Tap Room from a cask. I think they are the same beer but I am counting them different because they are named differently. Boston Beer Company came in second with 15 different beers and Boulevard after that with 14.
While I cannot narrow down the best beer I drank I can easily name a few terrible ones. Budweiser Chelada was terrible. Hite beer from Korea is disgusting. Michelob Wild Blue is gross.
A few glaring omissions from my list are Budweiser and PBR. I cannot believe I never had the King of Beers at a baseball game this summer. Maybe I did and forgot to add it to my list. How I missed PBR I do not know but I am certainly not going to run out to get some now. Or maybe I will.
That is all I have to say. If anyone wants to see my list let me know. There isn’t much there. Brewer, Beer and comments. Most of the comments are boring but there are a few that reflect how intoxicated I was when writing them. Next year I do not intend to drink as many beers but I do want to keep better records. I also hope to update this blog more, we will see how that goes.
Cheers,
Noah
